Jared Stidham, Photographer

Photography is my way of capturing my view of the world and sharing it with the world. I was never very artistic as a child, until I picked up my first camera at the age of 18. It all started with a simple point-and-shoot camera, which a few years later got upgraded to a entry level film SLR. In 2005, I decided to invest in my hobby and got my Associates Degree in Photography, which I graduated with in 2007.

It was for school that I purchased my first DSLR, and professional level lenses. That is where my passion for photography really took off. Utilizing the new digital format, I was able to experiment with different approaches to photography, that would be cost prohibitive with film.

Since then, I changed career trajectories again, obtaining my degree as a registered nurse. But all through that photography has always been there. I used my entry level camera I had from photography school for several years, and for Christmas of 2018, I finally upgraded to my first professional level camera. I used it on and off for the next year or so, but once the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 hit, I rediscovered my passion for the art.

From mid-March 2020 until July 2020 I made it a goal to take photos every single day. Over that span I recorded over 5000 images, and with all that practice I found that every time I went out I was taking more quality images. I have since then continued to practice my art.

Since then, I have again upgraded my camera. I now shoot the Canon R5 mirrorless camera.

I don’t think that there is anything I don’t like to photograph. I prefer natural light. I love candid portraiture. Often, you can find my walking in the woods, in search of beautiful scenery and wildlife.
